Asking Allah with conviction

Hazrat Abu Hurairahra narrated, “The Prophetsa said, ‘None of you should say, ‘O Allah, forgive me if You will,’ or ‘Have mercy on me if You will,’ or ‘Provide for me if You will.’ Rather, he should make his request with conviction, for Allah does as He wills, and there is none who can compel Him.’”

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab at-tawhid, Bab fi l-mashi’ati wa l-iradah, Hadith 7477)
